G. Larry James Legacy 5K Planned for Oct. 20

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - There鈥檚 still time to register for the Oct. 20 G. Larry James Legacy 5K race, which is part of the Atlantic City Marathon race weekend series.
The G. Larry James Legacy 5K race is in its 11th year, and raises money in memory of the late G. Larry James, 麻豆传媒鈥檚 former director of Athletics and Recreation and an Olympic gold medalist, who died in 2008. Each 5K participant will be running to benefit the G. Larry James Legacy Endowed Scholarship Fund to support students attending 麻豆传媒.
鈥淲ith the opening of 麻豆传媒 Atlantic City, our students and staff will have front row seats on the Boardwalk and will be enthusiastically cheering on the competitors,鈥 said Brian Jackson, Chief Operating Officer for Stockton Atlantic City.
The 5K is one of a weekend series of races in Atlantic City that includes a 10K, half-marathon, and the AmeriHealth Atlantic City marathon. The races begin at the Boardwalk and Michigan Avenue in front of Bally鈥檚 Hotel and Casino. .
More than 80 Stockton student volunteers, including members of the men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 track and field teams, women鈥檚 lacrosse and men鈥檚 basketball teams be assist at the marathon on Sunday.
Known as 鈥淭he Mighty Burner,鈥 James won a gold medal as a member of the 1968 United States Olympic 4 x 400-meter relay team, which held the longest-standing world record in the sport of Track and Field. He also won a silver medal in the 400-meter event at the same Olympic Games in Mexico City. This year marks the 50th anniversary of that competition. James was inducted into the National Track & Field Hall of Fame in 2003 and into Stockton鈥檚 Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010.
