Galloway, N.J. – The Stockton Center on Successful Aging (SCOSA) is holding its annual Aging Successfully Festival from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 18 in the Campus Center at �鶹��ý, 101 Vera King Farris Drive in Galloway, N.J.

Free and open to the public, the daylong event celebrates SCOSA's 10^th Anniversary and the Older Americans Month theme, “Age Out Loud,” focusing on how older adults are advocating for themselves, their peers, and their communities. This year’s festival focuses on the importance of advocacy, engagement and activities as adults enter their later years.

Participants can choose from a selection of presentations, documentary films, and musical treats, and gather information from over 20 exhibitors who will be present from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

A 9:30 a.m. documentary film, “Being Mortal,” is followed by an important end of life discussions with Christopher Bolich, D.O.  Take a short break, and return to hear Monmouth University professor Carolyn Bradley, Ph.D., discuss “Gay and Gray: Aging and Health Care Issues in the LGBT Community,” or a discussion led by Stockton professor Claire Abernathy, Ph.D., on “Age Out Loud in Politics: How to Contact Congress Effectively.”

Other sessions include presentations by Stockton’s Informational Technology department on Cyber Security and Social Media, by Gitterman and Associates on financial planning, and by SCOSA assistant Mico Lucide on “Fact or Fiction - Determining Reliable News Sources.”

Readings by SCOSA’s “Time to Tell” group, student posters on “Aging Around the World,” a ceremony honoring graduating students from Stockton’s Gerontology Minor, and a noon-time performance by the Stockton Faculty Band round out the program. Participants are encouraged to help us help the less fortunate; we will be collecting donated food for the hungry, musical instruments for disadvantaged youth and iPods for Alzheimer’s patients throughout the day.

Spring classes have ended, so parking is ample, steps away from the building. Stockton is on N.J. Transit bus route 508, which runs from Atlantic City to the Hamilton Mall.
